Buying Authentic Medications
Spotting the difference between fake and genuine drugs is an important consideration when purchasing medicines. This is because if you are not vigilant, you will definitely be putting your health at risk. As such, know that about 15% of those sold around the world are fake. The statistics is even worse in Asia and Africa. So here are some tips to determine whether what you are buying is authentic or not.
You are most likely paying for counterfeit drugs if:
The packaging, information leaflet, and labelling look closely identical to trusted brands but when you take a closer look, they are actually different.
The lettering on the packaging looks hazy.
Important prints on the medicine’s bottle are flat instead of raised, which is usually the case in genuine products.
The expiry date is missing or some of the labels are misspelled.
Aspects such as taste, colour, texture, shape, and size differ from what you usually shop for.
The price is significantly cheaper than those you get from official retailers.
Aside from all, remember that medicines that are often faked include antihistamines, antimalarials, and products that lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. So when buying these, be extra cautious and shop at trustworthy drugstores only as much as possible.
